What does Acts 10:3 mean?
Cornelius was a Roman military officer who feared God and gave generously to those in need, yet he wasn't Jewish and had no connection to the faith community. At three in the afternoon, while he was praying, God sent an angel to visit him directly, calling him by name in a way that was unmistakable and personal. This moment marks a turning point in the early church's understanding: God was reaching across the boundaries that separated Jews from non-Jews, showing that His invitation wasn't limited to one people group. The angel's arrival wasn't accidental or coincidental, but a deliberate divine communication that would eventually lead Peter (the chief apostle) to realize that salvation through Jesus was meant for all people, regardless of their background.
