What does Acts 10:16 mean?
Peter has just experienced a vision where a sheet filled with animals descended from heaven. He heard a voice inviting him to eat, but Peter refused because the animals included ones considered unclean under Jewish law. The sheet went up and came back down, and this cycle happened three times. This repetition was intentional. God wasn't unclear the first or second time, so the third repetition was meant to press the point home to Peter, preparing his heart for what was about to happen: meeting with Cornelius, a non-Jewish man, and beginning to understand that God's love wasn't limited by the old dietary laws and cultural boundaries. The vision ends abruptly when the vessel is taken back to heaven, leaving Peter shaken and confused, which is exactly where God wanted him. He was being pushed out of his comfort zone to do something that would feel impossible at first.
