What does Acts 1:9 mean?
After Jesus finished speaking to his disciples, he rose up into the sky while they watched, until a cloud hid him from view. This moment, called the Ascension, marks the end of Jesus's physical presence on earth after his resurrection, though the disciples understood this wasn't abandonment but rather his return to God the Father. The cloud imagery echoes Old Testament descriptions of God's presence and glory, suggesting that Jesus was entering into God's realm. For those first followers standing there in amazement, it was both an ending and a beginning, closing one chapter of walking with Jesus in person while opening another of following him through faith and the Holy Spirit.
