Acts 1:2
“until the day in which he was received up, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.”
What does Acts 1:2 mean?
Luke is describing Jesus' final instructions to his disciples before his ascension. The phrase "through the Holy Spirit" tells us something important: Jesus didn't speak to them in his own power alone, but the Spirit animated and guided his words, making them authoritative and transformative for the task ahead. The "commandment" Luke has in mind becomes clear just a few verses later, when Jesus tells them to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit's power before spreading the gospel outward. Even though Jesus was physically leaving, he was equipping them for something greater than they could accomplish on their own.
