What does 2 Timothy 2:3 mean?
Paul uses the image of a soldier to remind Timothy (and us) that following Jesus requires toughness and staying power, not comfort or ease. A soldier doesn't sign up expecting the work to be pleasant, and neither should a follower of Christ, especially when facing opposition or discouragement. The point isn't that hardship itself is good, but that faithfulness through hard times is part of what it means to serve Christ wholeheartedly.
