What does 2 Timothy 2:25 mean?
When we encounter people who resist God's truth, our instinct might be to argue harder or shut down. But Paul is saying something gentler and more hopeful: correction matters most when it's wrapped in kindness. A harsh tone typically hardens someone's resistance, while gentleness creates space for them to actually listen and reconsider. What's striking here is the humility in "perhaps God may give them repentance." We can speak truth clearly, but we can't force someone's heart to change, even if we're right. That transformation comes from God working within them. Our job is to show up with patience and compassion, knowing that the person across from us might be exactly where we once stood, confused or defensive about spiritual things. Sometimes the most powerful witness is simply refusing to meet hardness with hardness.
