What does 2 Thessalonians 3:5 mean?

Paul is asking God to guide the Thessalonians deeper into two connected experiences: the reality of being loved by God, and the kind of steady, unshakeable patience that Jesus himself embodied. He's not suggesting they lack these things, but rather that they grow more rooted in them, especially as they face pressure and discouragement. When you're exhausted by hardship, it's easy to doubt that you're truly loved or to lose hope that endurance matters. Paul's prayer is that God would realign their hearts with what's actually true: that they're held by divine love, and that staying faithful through difficulty is never wasted. This prayer works for any of us when we're struggling to keep going.
