What does 2 Thessalonians 2:6 mean?
Paul is reminding his readers of something he had already taught them in person: there's a spiritual force currently holding back the full emergence of evil and chaos in the world. He's being deliberately vague here, partly because his audience understood his earlier explanation and partly because some things about God's timeline remain mysterious to us. The comfort in this verse is that evil isn't running unchecked or out of control. There's a restraint in place, and God has a specific timing for how history unfolds. When you're struggling with the brokenness you see around you, this reminds us that the current state of things is not permanent and that God hasn't lost the plot. Everything will be revealed and dealt with according to his schedule, not ours.
