What does 2 Thessalonians 2:1 mean?
Paul is writing to reassure a community that's become anxious and confused about when Jesus will return. He's about to gently correct some misconceptions they've picked up, but he starts by reminding them that he and Timothy are asking this as fellow believers, not issuing demands from above. The tone matters here: Paul treats them as family ("brothers") facing a shared concern, which sets up his message as coming from a place of care rather than judgment. He's essentially saying, "I know you're worried about this, and I want to help settle your minds."
