2 Samuel 7:25
“Now, Yahweh God, the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, confirm it forever, and do as you have spoken.”
What does 2 Samuel 7:25 mean?
David is asking God to keep his promise. Earlier in this chapter, God told David that his kingdom and family line would last forever, and David is now praying back to God, essentially saying, "Please make good on what you've said." There's something tender about this prayer, because David isn't demanding or doubting, he's simply asking God to establish what God himself has already promised. This matters for all of us when we're holding onto God's words during uncertain times. David shows us that it's completely okay, even beautiful, to bring God's own promises back to him in prayer. When life feels unstable or when you're waiting to see something come to pass, you can do what David did: remind God of what he's said, and ask him to make it real in your life.
