What does 2 Samuel 7:21 mean?
David is marveling at God's faithfulness in this moment of prayer. He's recognizing that everything God has done—building his dynasty, establishing his kingdom, making him a great leader—flows directly from God's character and promises, not from anything David deserved or earned. When David says God acted "according to your own heart," he means God's actions reflect God's own generous nature and deep commitment to David's wellbeing. David is essentially saying: God didn't have to do this, but God chose to anyway because of who God is.
