What does 2 Samuel 7:13 mean?

God is speaking to King David through the prophet Nathan, promising that David's son (Solomon) will build the temple in Jerusalem, and that David's line will rule forever. This wasn't just about a building project, though, it was about permanence and blessing, the assurance that God would remain present with His people through a stable, enduring dynasty. For David, who had lived as a fugitive and a warrior, this promise meant his life's struggles would lead to something lasting and sacred. Christians later understood this promise as pointing toward Jesus, who came from David's line and whose kingdom truly does last forever.
