What does 2 Samuel 2:14 mean?
Two rival armies faced each other after King Saul's death, each supporting different claims to Israel's throne. Abner led Saul's forces while Joab commanded King David's army, and instead of an immediate battle, Abner proposed that their young soldiers "play" or compete against each other, perhaps thinking this limited combat might settle things without a full-scale war.
