What does 2 Samuel 2:1 mean?
David has just learned that King Saul and his son Jonathan are dead, ending years of running and hiding. Rather than seizing power on his own, David does something that might seem unusual to us today: he asks God for guidance about where to go next. When God directs him to Hebron, a significant city in Judah, David follows that direction. What's striking here is David's posture. Even though he's been promised the kingship and has the opportunity to claim it, he's still seeking God's will step by step. He doesn't assume anything or rush ahead.
