What does 2 Samuel 16:14 mean?
King David was fleeing Jerusalem after his own son Absalom had turned against him in a rebellion. After traveling all day through difficult terrain with his loyal followers, David and his companions arrived at a place of refuge completely exhausted. The simple act of stopping to rest, to catch his breath, and to recover his strength became a necessary mercy in the middle of his crisis. There's something deeply human in this moment. Even in the midst of devastating loss and betrayal, our bodies need rest. David allowed himself and those with him to pause, to be restored.
