What does 2 Samuel 12:28 mean?
Joab is speaking to King David during the siege of Rabbah, the capital of the Ammonites. He's essentially saying, "You need to come finish this battle yourself, because if I take the city, people will call it by my name instead of yours, and you're the king." It's a practical but also political move—Joab is making sure the victory (and the glory) belongs to David, not to his military commander. There's something touching underneath the military strategy here. Joab is showing loyalty by insisting that David get the credit and the honor. In hard times, when we're doing difficult work behind the scenes, it matters to remember who we're serving and why.
