What does 2 Samuel 12:25 mean?
After David and Bathsheba's son was born following their sin, God sent the prophet Nathan to confront David about what had happened. This verse comes at the end of that painful story: the child they conceived in wrongdoing died, but then Bathsheba became pregnant again. This time, God chose a special name for the baby through Nathan the prophet, calling him Jedidiah, which means "beloved of the Lord." The name itself is an act of grace. Even though this child was born from broken circumstances, God was declaring his love for the boy and, in a way, his restoration of David and Bathsheba's relationship. It's a beautiful reminder that God's tenderness and favor aren't withheld because of our failures, and that He can bring healing and new beginnings even from our darkest moments. (This baby would grow up to be Solomon, who became one of Israel's greatest kings.)
