What does 2 Samuel 11:3 mean?
When David notices a beautiful woman bathing from his palace rooftop, his first instinct is to find out who she is. The response he gets includes her name and family connections, but notice what comes last: she's identified as "Uriah the Hittite's wife." That detail matters because it should have stopped him right there. She wasn't available, and she wasn't his to pursue. This moment captures the beginning of a terrible choice. David had everything a king could want, yet he allowed desire to override what he knew was right. The woman's identity is stated plainly, almost like the narrator is asking us to notice what David chose to ignore. Many of us recognize this pattern in our own lives: when we want something badly enough, we can become skilled at overlooking the reasons we shouldn't have it.
