What does 2 Peter 1:14 mean?

Peter is writing near the end of his life, using the image of a tent to describe his physical body. Just as a tent is temporary shelter that eventually gets taken down, he knows his earthly life will soon end. Jesus himself had told Peter how he would die (this happens earlier in John's gospel), so Peter isn't fearful or uncertain about what's coming, but rather at peace with it. Because he knows his time is short, there's an urgency to his message in this letter: he wants to make sure the readers understand the truths of faith before he's gone. For anyone facing a difficult season or mortality of their own, Peter's calm acceptance offers a quiet example of faith that doesn't panic when faced with life's limits.
