What does 2 Kings 9:3 mean?
The prophet Elisha is sending a young messenger to secretly anoint Jehu as the next king of Israel, which was how God formally designated rulers in those days. This dramatic, hurried instruction reflects the danger of the moment: Jehu's anointing was part of God's plan to overturn the corrupt king Ahab's dynasty, but it had to happen quickly and in secret to avoid immediate retaliation.
