“Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain, “Pick him up, and throw him in the plot of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember how, when you and I rode together after Ahab his father, Yahweh laid this burden on him:”
What does 2 Kings 9:25 mean?
Jehu is commanding that the body of King Joram be thrown onto Naboth's field, and he's reminding his officer of something crucial: years earlier, God had pronounced judgment on Ahab (Joram's father) for the very injustice that happened on that same land. Naboth had been falsely accused and killed so that Ahab could seize his vineyard, and God had promised that Ahab's family would pay the price. What Jehu is doing now, he frames as the fulfillment of that ancient promise. This is a moment where Jehu sees himself carrying out God's justice, even as he's establishing his own power through violent means.
