What does 2 Kings 9:16 mean?

Jehu, a military commander anointed to overthrow the house of Ahab, is racing toward the city of Jezreel where King Joram of Israel is recovering from battle wounds. The king of Judah, Ahaziah, has come to visit his wounded ally, which means Jehu is about to encounter not one ruler but two. This convergence sets the stage for a dramatic and violent turning point in Israel's history, where Jehu will act on his commission to cleanse the land of Ahab's idolatrous dynasty. Even in the simple detail of who is present and where, we see how quickly circumstances can shift when God's purposes move forward through human action.
