2 Kings 9:11
“When Jehu came out to the servants of his lord, and one said to him, “Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you?” He said to them, “You know the man and how he talks.””
What does 2 Kings 9:11 mean?
Jehu has just been anointed as king by a prophet, and when he emerges, his fellow officers notice he's acting strangely. They ask if everything's okay and call the prophet a "mad fellow," which reflects how prophets in ancient Israel were sometimes viewed as eccentric or unstable. Instead of explaining what really happened, Jehu brushes off their concern by essentially saying, "You know how these guys are—they always talk like that." He's being evasive, perhaps because the moment isn't right to reveal his kingship yet, or because he senses their skepticism. It's a very human response to an awkward situation, showing how we sometimes deflect when we're carrying something momentous that we're not ready to share.
