“As he was telling the king how he had restored to life him who was dead, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, begged the king for her house and for her land. Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.””
What does 2 Kings 8:5 mean?
A woman whose son had died and been brought back to life by the prophet Elisha is making her case to the king for the return of her home and land, which she'd apparently lost during a famine. Gehazi, Elisha's servant, happens to be right there telling the king about Elisha's miracles, and he recognizes her and vouches for her story. It's a beautiful moment where someone's desperate need intersects with the right person being in the right place at the right time, and her truth gets confirmed by a witness. Sometimes when we're struggling to be heard or to get justice, God works through the ordinary connections and conversations around us, turning coincidence into providence.
