“They rose up in the twilight, to go to the camp of the Syrians. When they had come to the outermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, no man was there.”
What does 2 Kings 7:5 mean?
Four men with leprosy were facing a choice: stay in their besieged city where famine was killing people, or risk entering the enemy camp. As darkness fell, they walked toward the Syrian army expecting either mercy or death, and instead found the camp completely abandoned. God had caused the Syrians to hear a terrifying sound in the night and flee in panic, leaving behind all their supplies. What makes this moment powerful is that these men, considered the lowest in their society because of their disease, became the unlikely messengers of salvation for their entire city. They acted despite their fear and uncertainty, moving forward into what seemed like certain danger. Sometimes the hardest step forward, taken with whatever small faith we can muster, is exactly what God uses to change everything.
