What does 2 Kings 5:17 mean?
Naaman, a foreign military commander who's just been healed of leprosy, is asking to take soil from Israel back to his homeland. He wants physical earth from God's land because in his culture, gods were believed to be present in specific places, and he's committing himself to worship only the God of Israel from this point forward. By requesting this earth, he's essentially saying: "I want to bring a piece of this place where I met the true God so that I can worship him faithfully at home."
