What does 2 Kings 3:19 mean?
When the king of Israel and his allies went to war against Moab, the prophet Elisha told them what destruction would follow their victory. This wasn't a command Elisha was giving them to obey, but rather a description of what conquering armies of that time typically did: they would demolish fortifications, cut down valuable trees (which represented wealth and food security), poison water sources, and salt or stone the land to make it unusable for farming.
