What does 2 Kings 24:7 mean?
After the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar defeated Egypt's forces, Egypt's pharaoh lost both the ability and the will to expand his power. Babylon had become so dominant in the ancient Near East that it now controlled all the territory that Egypt once claimed, stretching from Egypt's border down to the Euphrates River. This verse marks a turning point where the old superpowers of the region were being replaced by Babylon's overwhelming strength. For the people of Judah living through this time, it meant there would be no Egyptian help or interference, only Babylon's rule, which is why this historical shift mattered so much to their survival.
