What does 2 Kings 23:7 mean?
King Josiah is systematically tearing down structures and practices that had corrupted worship in the temple, God's house. The "male shrine prostitutes" were part of fertility cult practices that had been absorbed into Israel's religion, mixing worship of God with worship of other gods and their associated rituals. By removing these houses and the people who served in them, Josiah was trying to restore the temple to its intended holiness and redirect people's devotion back to God alone. This reform shows how easily even sacred spaces can drift from their true purpose when people allow other influences to take root.
