What does 2 Kings 23:37 mean?

This verse describes King Jehoiakim of Judah, who ignored the spiritual reforms his grandfather King Josiah had worked so hard to establish. Instead of following God's ways, he deliberately chose the same destructive path his ancestors had walked before Josiah's changes. The sadness here is that Jehoiakim had a choice. He'd witnessed the positive results of his grandfather's faithfulness and seen how the kingdom had been blessed. Yet he consciously rejected that legacy and returned to harmful practices. It's a reminder that we sometimes know what's right but choose what's familiar or comfortable instead, even when we've seen proof that obedience leads to better outcomes.
