2 Kings 23:24
“Moreover Josiah removed those who had familiar spirits, the wizards, and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in Yahweh’s house.”
What does 2 Kings 23:24 mean?
King Josiah is cleaning house spiritually, getting rid of all the practices that had drifted into his kingdom and were pulling people away from God's true worship. When workers discovered an old copy of God's law while renovating the temple, Josiah took it seriously and started removing everything that contradicted it, from occult practitioners to idols that had crept into common use. This shows someone in power actually listening when they realize they've been living out of step with what they claim to believe. It's a picture of genuine repentance that goes beyond words, affecting real change in how a whole nation lived.
