2 Kings 2:15
“When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho over against him saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.”
What does 2 Kings 2:15 mean?
The prophets watching from Jericho had just witnessed something extraordinary: Elijah being taken up to heaven in a whirlwind, and Elisha receiving a double portion of his spirit as he fell. When they see Elisha return with that same power visibly at work through him (he'd just parted the Jordan River), they immediately recognize that God's anointing has transferred to him. Their bowing wasn't worship of Elisha himself, but rather a gesture of respect and submission to the authority God had given him as their new spiritual leader. In that moment, the community of prophets accepts what God had already decided: Elisha is now their guide and the one who carries forward Elijah's prophetic mantle.
