What does 2 Kings 17:18 mean?
When the northern kingdom of Israel turned away from God and adopted other gods despite repeated warnings from prophets, God's patience reached its limit. The nation was conquered and its people scattered, ending the kingdom that had existed for about 200 years. Only the southern kingdom of Judah remained, carrying on the line of David and the Temple worship in Jerusalem. This moment was devastating but also became a turning point in how God's people understood faithfulness. The exile showed that God takes seriously when we reject Him, yet it didn't end His plan. The survival of Judah kept alive the hope of restoration and redemption that the prophets had promised would come through a descendant of David.
