2 Kings 14:3

He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, yet not like David his father. He did according to all that Joash his father had done.

What does 2 Kings 14:3 mean?

King Amaziah of Judah wanted to follow God, but his commitment had limits. He walked a middle path, doing what was right without the wholehearted devotion that made his ancestor David legendary. Instead, he followed the example of his own father Joash, who also sought to honor God but held back something for himself. This touches on something many of us recognize in our own lives: the difference between genuine obedience and going through the motions. Amaziah wasn't openly rebelling against God, yet there's an undertone suggesting his faith lacked real depth or passion. He was willing to do good, just not willing to give everything. It's a quiet reminder that God sees not just our actions but the whole orientation of our hearts.
