What does 2 Kings 14:16 mean?

When a king "slept with his fathers" in ancient Israel, it simply meant he died and was laid to rest in the burial place of his royal line. Jehoash, who had ruled the northern kingdom of Israel, received the honor of being buried in Samaria alongside previous kings, which showed respect for his reign. His son Jeroboam II then took the throne, continuing the line of succession. This verse marks an ordinary transition of power during a period when the kingdoms of Israel and Judah were managing their own affairs, each with their own kings and their own complicated relationships with God.
