What does 2 Kings 14:10 mean?
King Joash is warning Amaziah of Judah against letting one military victory go to his head. Amaziah had just defeated Edom in battle and was riding that success, but Joash saw danger in his pride and was essentially saying, "Take your win and be content, rather than pushing your luck further." The warning proved prophetic, because Amaziah ignored it and was badly defeated when he challenged Israel to battle shortly after. There's something deeply human in this moment. Success can make us feel invincible and cloud our judgment about what's wise, especially when we're still learning who we are and what we can handle. Sometimes the most loving thing someone can offer is a gentle reality check, even when we're feeling on top of the world.
