“Again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. The third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and begged him, and said to him, “Man of God, please let my life, and the life of these fifty of your servants, be precious in your sight.”
What does 2 Kings 1:13 mean?
King Ahaziah had sent soldiers twice before to arrest the prophet Elijah, and both times fire came down from heaven and consumed them. This third captain, watching what happened to the others, takes a completely different approach: he humbles himself, shows respect, and appeals to Elijah's compassion rather than demanding obedience.
