2 Corinthians 5:6
“Therefore we are always confident and know that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord;”
What does 2 Corinthians 5:6 mean?
Paul is reminding us of a fundamental spiritual reality: as long as we're living in our physical bodies on earth, we're separated from God's direct presence in a way that believers in heaven won't be. This isn't meant to discourage us, but rather to help us understand why faith matters so much right now—we have to trust in God without seeing him face to face, which takes real courage. He uses the language of being "away from home" to capture something many of us feel intuitively: that deeper part of us that longs for something beyond what this world offers. For Paul, that longing points toward our future with God, even as we live faithfully and fully in the present moment.
