What does 2 Corinthians 3:17 mean?

Paul is telling us that when God's Spirit is truly present in our lives, we experience real freedom—freedom from fear, shame, guilt, and the weight of trying to earn God's approval through our own effort. He's contrasting this with the old way of relating to God through strict rules alone, which could feel heavy and restrictive. When we're connected to God's Spirit, we're not slaves to perfection or performance; instead, we find ourselves able to live authentically and breathe deeply. That liberty isn't the freedom to do whatever we want, but rather the freedom to become who we're actually meant to be.
