What does 2 Corinthians 2:3 mean?
Paul is explaining why he sent a difficult letter to the Corinthian church instead of visiting them in person. He wanted to address serious problems (like division and sexual sin) before showing up, so that when he finally arrived, he could celebrate with them rather than confront them in grief. He's saying, essentially: "I'm writing the hard stuff now so we can actually enjoy each other when we're together." There's something deeply human in this. Paul trusted that the Corinthians, once they understood what needed to change, would make things right, and then his visit could be about mutual joy instead of correction. It shows he believed in their capacity to grow, and he wanted the relationship restored enough to share gladness together rather than disappointment.
