What does 2 Chronicles 36:12 mean?

King Zedekiah had every chance to turn things around. The prophet Jeremiah was literally sent by God to warn him, to call him back to faithfulness before it was too late, but Zedekiah refused to listen or change his ways. His stubbornness wasn't just a personality flaw, it was a spiritual refusal, a hardening of his heart against both God and the messenger God sent. What makes this verse sting is how simple the alternative was: humility. Not grand gestures or impossible changes, just the willingness to admit he was wrong and listen to what God was saying through his prophet. Instead, he chose to stay proud, to keep doing evil, and the result was catastrophic for his kingdom and his people. Sometimes the hardest thing and the most necessary thing is admitting we need to change.
