What does 2 Chronicles 34:28 mean?
The prophet Huldah is speaking to King Josiah, reassuring him during a troubled time in Judah's history. God is saying that Josiah will die peacefully, before the nation faces the severe consequences of its accumulated unfaithfulness—a mercy for the faithful king himself, even though judgment is coming for the people after him. This is comfort wrapped in honesty. Josiah had worked hard to reform his nation and turn people back to God, but the damage from generations of disobedience ran deep. Rather than letting him live to witness the nation's collapse, God grants him the dignity of a peaceful death and spares him from seeing the suffering ahead. It's a reminder that faithfulness to God matters, and that sometimes God's protection takes the form of sparing us from burdens we're not meant to carry.
