What does 2 Chronicles 33:22 mean?
Amon became king after his father Manasseh and immediately undid the spiritual reforms his father had eventually made. Instead of learning from Manasseh's painful journey (which included exile and repentance), Amon chose to worship the carved idols that Manasseh had once set up, then abandoned. This shows how easily one generation's hard-won wisdom can be lost when the next generation refuses to listen or learn from what came before. What makes this particularly tragic is that Amon had a living example of what happens when you turn away from God, yet he deliberately walked back toward those same mistakes. His short reign (only two years before his own officials assassinated him) reflects how destructive this kind of stubborn rebellion proved to be, both spiritually and politically. Sometimes the most important spiritual lessons come from watching what didn't work for those we love.
