2 Chronicles 26:21

Uzziah the king was a leper to the day of his death, and lived in a separate house, being a leper; for he was cut off from Yahweh’s house. Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.

What does 2 Chronicles 26:21 mean?

King Uzziah had become proud in his success and entered the temple to burn incense, a sacred duty reserved only for priests. God struck him with leprosy as a consequence, and he spent his remaining years isolated from both the temple and normal society. His son Jotham took over the actual governing work, leaving Uzziah to live out his days separated and ceremonially unclean. It's a sobering reminder that even good leaders can fall when they overstep their bounds and forget that some boundaries exist for our own protection, not just for rules' sake.
