“They resisted Uzziah the king, and said to him, “It isn’t for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to Yahweh, but for the priests the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary, for you have trespassed. It will not be for your honor from Yahweh God.””
What does 2 Chronicles 26:18 mean?
King Uzziah had become powerful and successful, and that success apparently went to his head. He decided to enter the temple and burn incense himself, a sacred duty reserved only for the priests. When the priests confronted him, they were essentially saying, "This isn't your role, no matter how important you've become." Their warning wasn't meant to shame him but to protect him, since crossing into God's sacred space without permission carried real consequences. The message here is both humbling and protective: true honor doesn't come from overstepping boundaries or taking on responsibilities that aren't ours, but from staying faithful to the role God has given us.
