What does 2 Chronicles 25:18 mean?
Joash uses a cutting parable to mock Amaziah's challenge to war. The thistle represents weak Judah, the cedar represents powerful Israel, and the wild animal is the destructive consequence of Amaziah's pride. Joash is essentially saying: "You're picking a fight you can't win, and it will destroy you." This moment captures what happens when someone inflated by a recent victory overreaches beyond their actual strength. Amaziah had just won a battle against Edom and let success go to his head, challenging the far stronger northern kingdom.
