What does 2 Chronicles 25:13 mean?
King Amaziah had hired mercenaries from Israel to help fight his enemies, then dismissed them before battle, fearing they might betray him. Angry at being rejected and sent home empty-handed, these hired soldiers turned violent and raided Judah's own towns instead, killing thousands and stealing whatever they could carry. It's a painful reminder of how our attempts to manage problems poorly can backfire in unexpected ways, leaving innocent people caught in the crossfire. Sometimes the damage we create through hasty decisions costs far more than the original problem would have.
