2 Chronicles 23:18

Jehoiada appointed the officers of Yahweh’s house under the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in Yahweh’s house, to offer the burnt offerings of Yahweh, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, as David had ordered.

What does 2 Chronicles 23:18 mean?

After the priest Jehoiada helped restore the rightful king to Judah's throne, he reorganized the temple's worship to follow David's original design. He made sure the Levites and priests were properly assigned their roles, with clear leadership so everything would run in order. The temple sacrifices were to be offered according to God's law, but notably not in a grim or obligatory way, but with genuine joy and song. This verse shows us that when God's people return to authentic worship after a period of neglect or corruption, restoration includes both right structure and right spirit, doing things "decently and in order" while celebrating with grateful hearts.
