What does 2 Chronicles 10:13 mean?

When young King Rehoboam took over Israel's throne, the people asked him to lighten the heavy taxes and labor his father Solomon had imposed. Instead of listening to his experienced advisors, Rehoboam chose to listen to his peers, who told him to be even harsher. His rough response—essentially saying "my little finger is thicker than my father's waist"—revealed pride rather than wisdom, and it tore the kingdom apart. This moment teaches us something real about why we sometimes reject good advice: it often comes wrapped in humility, while flattery or our own impulses feel exciting and strong. When we're facing a decision, it's worth asking whether we're drawn to wise counsel or just to voices that tell us what we want to hear.
