What does 1 Timothy 6:13 mean?

Paul is speaking to Timothy with unusual solemnity here, invoking both God and Jesus as witnesses to what he's about to say. That phrase "testified the good confession" refers to Jesus standing before Pilate without backing down from who he was, even knowing it would cost him everything. Paul is essentially reminding Timothy: look, the one we follow didn't take the easy way out when pressure came, so neither should you. It's a call to hold fast to faith with the same courage Jesus showed, no matter what circumstances try to shake you.
